Children’s Museum, Durfee block and other Fall River preservation projects report progress; fire museum flags new roof leak

Members of the Fall River City Community Preservation Committee received project updates on Oct. 20 for multiple preservation projects funded or supported by CPC funds.
Sandy and other staff reported that drawings for the Children’s Museum project have been issued and that bids are scheduled to be opened Oct. 30, 2025. Staff cautioned that DCAMM (Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance) requirements and pending federal aid could influence contractor availability and a project timeline.
Committee members said Durfee block and Monte Ferris expect to order windows by December or January, with a target of shovel-ready status in spring (April–May) pending linked federal funding.
The Historical Society and Christ the Rock Church projects continue to make visible progress; the Historical Society gallery and cupola work drew praise and the commission will host a public tour and presentation on Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. in the council hearing room. Staff noted the historical-preservation guidelines and materials are complete and will be updated in the committee’s records.
The Fire Museum accepted bids for windows and planned installation, but staff reported the museum recently reported a new roof leak. Committee members noted the property is city-owned and suggested the city must address building-maintenance funding; the CPC’s ability to fund additional rounds is limited while other projects are active.
Committee members asked staff to monitor these projects and report back on timelines and any funding or procurement obstacles.
