Fall River committee approves accessibility and repair changes for 80 Belmont St. art project

The Fall River City Community Preservation Committee on Oct. 20 approved proposed changes to the Greater Fall River Art Association’s 80 Belmont Street project, including accessibility work and painting/repair of a fire escape, after a brief presentation and committee discussion.
Paul Cloutier and Ron Gagnon of the Greater Fall River Art Association presented the item and reiterated that the grant scope limits what work can be funded: changes outside the approved scope would require a new application. Committee members discussed whether a ramp would qualify as an allowable lift under the grant, and the historical commission’s staff noted that a ramp might be less visually intrusive than a back-porch lift and might avoid damage to historic porch fabric. The group also clarified that painting and some trim repair to the fire escape were included in the current project description even though full removal was not.
A motion to proceed with the described changes to the 80 Belmont Street project was made and seconded; the committee approved it by voice vote.
Committee members thanked the presenters and invited the public to an unrelated community event (a local haunted-house fundraiser) at the site on Saturday.
