San Juan County commissioners approve consent items, multiple grants and contracts

The San Juan County Commission voted to approve the consent agenda and a series of discrete contract and grant items during its Oct. 21 meeting.

The consent agenda included approval of $12,839.33 in small purchases; approval of meeting minutes from Sept. 2; appointment of Jim Kopp to the Wilson & Water Special Service District administrative board; and ratification of an interagency agreement with the Utah Department of Workforce Services for homeless prevention services through 2027 (three‑year total $142,917.88). Commissioners approved a letter of support for a Southeastern Regional Development Agency grant for a business incubator in Price and ratified an agreement with the Utah Department of Transportation on airport taxiway rehabilitation design and construction. The commission approved the consent agenda by voice vote.

After the consent items the commission approved a long list of staff‑recommended contracts and grant amendments that staff presented during the meeting. Key approvals included: - A standard service contract with AJC Architects for design services on the Children’s Justice Center project. - A deposit of $35,000 to Rocky Mountain Power for the landfill power project (deposit to be applied against an estimated $380,000–$390,000 total project cost). - A revised construction/FAA contract amount for the airport taxi lane/airport access road project; the updated total for the project package is $2,355,469 (the county remains responsible for 5% of eligible costs after FAA/state shares). - Multiple public health contract amendments and new awards, including funds for WIC (Women, Infants and Children), STD interventions, maternal and child health block grants and the state poison control outreach agreement. - Ratification of the county’s participation as a concurring party in a memorandum of agreement addressing historic‑property treatment for the proposed Lisbon Valley mine modification.

Most items were approved on motions made and seconded on the record; in several cases commissioners approved the staff recommendation after brief discussion. No formal roll‑call vote tallies were recorded in the public minutes for each item; motions were carried by oral “aye” votes during the meeting.

The commission meeting also included separate actions and discussions on judicial nominations, the county quarterly financial report, EMS fee schedules, homeless services and sheriff’s revenue allocations. Those items are covered in separate articles.
