Court members and staff said the amendment responds to concerns that a strict contractual obligation for nonemergency transports could tie up ambulances needed for emergencies. County attorney/court staff (Cam) proposed adding the words “subject to availability” before the clause that requires EMS to provide nonemergency ambulance transportation to hospital patients; staff also suggested explicitly stating that emergency calls take priority.
Cam and EMS leadership said the agreement already contains a provision (contract paragraph 25.a) requiring EMS to notify the facility as soon as possible if a transport delay occurs, but the amended language is intended to make the county’s operational limits explicit to the hospital. The court approved the contract renewal with the amendment contingent upon hospital approval and signature.
Motion and vote: The court approved a motion to renew the contract with the recommended amendment and contingent on hospital acceptance; the motion passed by voice vote.
