Board grants athletic director tenure, approves retirements and other consent items

The Goshen Central School District Board of Education unanimously appointed George St. Lawrence as director of health, physical education and athletics and conferred tenure in that tenure area effective Oct. 15, 2025.

Board minutes record the motion: "Be it resolved upon the recommendations of the interim superintendent of schools, the Board of Education appoints George St. Lawrence as director of health, physical education, and athletics at Goshen High School at a gross salary of $150,000 pro rated effective 10/15/2025." The motion as recorded also states St. Lawrence has "permanent school district leader, permanent school administrator supervisor, and permanent physical education certifications" and that the board "approves the tenure appointment of George St. Lawrence in the tenure area of director of health, physical education, and athletics effective 10/15/2025." The motion passed with a voice vote of "Aye" and no opposing votes listed.

Mr. St. Lawrence spoke briefly after the appointment, thanking the board and community and saying, "I assure you that reaching tenure is a milestone, which I've had a few times, but to have it in my hometown ... it's tenure for my family." The appointment action was read as effective Oct. 15, 2025.

The board also approved consent-agenda personnel items by voice vote, accepting the retirement of Kristen Green, an English teacher, effective Feb. 1, 2026 (noted as 30 years with the district), and the retirement of Diane Benezi, a teaching assistant, effective Oct. 17, 2025 (noted as 15 years with the district). The consent agenda was approved following a motion by board members identified as Brett and Scott.

Other routine motions (a brief recess and later the new-business approval) were handled by voice vote without recorded dissents.
