Parent asks board about extra school safety steps; board defers detailed reply

During public comment at the Oct. 13 Clover Park School District board meeting, a parent asked whether the board is taking additional steps to keep students safe amid “heated times” nationally.
Corey Walkery identified himself from the Clover Park District and said he has “a son who's nonverbal autistic,” then asked: “are there any extra steps that this school board is taking to keep our children safe? Are there any preventative measures that are being added this next year?”
President Anderson Pearson responded that the board does not provide detailed responses during public comment and said: “We do have a lot of security measures. I can say that. But if you fill out the comment card, we can get back to you on all of the information that you're requesting.”
No specific new security measures were announced at the meeting. The board invited the commenter to submit a comment card so staff can follow up with the detailed information he requested.
