During old business, commissioners discussed a will that dedicates funds for a specific library building and whether the county should assume ownership and maintenance responsibilities. The law director and budget staff described the funds as restricted to that building and said any appropriation would need to be processed through county finance. Commissioners asked staff to contact the city to clarify how the city would use its portion and to return with a plan; the committee approved a one‑month deferral to allow the law director to communicate with city officials.
Later in the meeting a separate resolution was presented to change the county library board’s membership from nine to seven, a change supporters said state officials prefer. The committee approved the resolution by voice vote.
Commissioners said the ownership and funding question for the Hendersonville library will return to committee after legal staff and the mayor coordinate with city officials about use of the funds and ownership structure.
