Woodland Police Chief presented commendations and lifesaving awards at the start of the Oct. 6 council meeting, recognizing officers for separate incidents in 2023–2025.
The chief described several incidents: Officer Thompson was honored for locating a vehicle tied to a juvenile kidnapping and aiding in the child’s rescue; Vancouver Police Department sent a message of appreciation that staff read into the record. Officer Alex Olsen received a lifesaving award for a response to two loose pit bulls near the middle school on Aug. 29, 2025; the chief described Olsen firing at one animal to stop an attack and protecting a citizen and a small dog in imminent danger. Officer Bryce Livesay was honored for life-saving CPR performed in July 2025 that led to a patient’s survival and subsequent contact from that person’s family.
The chief also presented chief’s coins and noted the department’s hiring retention as a positive; Mayor Todd Deinhert and council members thanked the officers publicly and invited families for photos.
The recognition was ceremonial; no formal council action was recorded. The chief said written medals and plaques were en route and family photos would follow.
