Charleston County finance committee approves $650,000 library bonus amendment and confirms board nominations

The finance committee approved a budget amendment to allocate $650,000 from county fund balance to the Charleston County Library to cover employee bonuses, county staff said during the committee’s consent-agenda discussion. Council members asked whether the funds had come from the library’s prior budget; county staff clarified the money comes from the county fund balance and will not affect library operations. The library board had approved the budget amendment before the council vote.

The committee then considered appointments to multiple citizen boards. Council conducted a roll-call nomination and vote for the Disabilities and Special Needs Board. Several nominees were named from the dais; those nominated included Woods Flowers, Kaysen (also spelled Kayson in the roll call), Hoops and Kenyon. Nominee Kayson spoke briefly to the committee, outlined her prior service on the board and asked for appointment to a four-year term. The council voted in favor of the nominations during roll-call procedures; staff announced the ayes carried and the appointees will serve on the board.

Committee members also moved and approved other routine consent items and board confirmations during the meeting. Council recorded votes by voice and roll call; where the transcript records the result it was recorded as approved with an “ayes have it.”
