The Clay County School Board on Oct. 16 approved the state-recommended 2025-26 differentiated pay plan and added an ESL mentor coach role to support teachers providing English-language services.
Administrators said the district continues to use anchor teacher leaders who provide collaborative preparation across subject and grade levels. The board packet noted an increased population of students receiving English learner services at two of the district's three schools; the ESL mentor coach was added to provide instructional and assessment support for those teachers.
Under the approved changes, the district kept existing dollar amounts for performance pay but expanded eligibility to include student growth as well as absolute achievement. "This would allow you to recognize growth," a presenter said, explaining the proposal would reward teachers who show student growth from the beginning to the end of the year in addition to those meeting proficiency thresholds.
The motion to adopt the differentiated pay plan carried by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The plan as adopted keeps current payment levels, adds the ESL mentor coach role, and modifies eligibility criteria to include growth on the Universal Reading Screener for pre-K through second grade and other growth measures where applicable.
Details about compensation amounts and eligibility tiers were included in the packet provided to board members; the board did not read the line-item compensation numbers aloud at the meeting.
