Haslet council approves interlocal purchasing agreement with Denton, greenlights Tarrant County police services ILA

The Haslet City Council on Monday approved two interlocal agreements aimed at procurement efficiency and public-safety services.

Council unanimously authorized an interlocal cooperative purchasing agreement with the City of Denton that will allow Haslet to use Dentoncontracts and competitively bid pricing for capital equipment and services (vehicles, striping, pavement services, etc.). Public Works Director Tucker told the council staff had used Denton contract pricing in preliminary budget planning for vehicle purchases and that the agreement is meant to add another procurement option beyond existing cooperative purchasing arrangements (e.g., Tarrant County, BuyBoard).

During discussion council members asked why the City of Fort Worth had not been used; the motion that passed included direction for staff to reach out to Fort Worth to seek similar agreements, so Haslet will have multiple cooperative options.

The council also approved an interlocal agreement for police services with Tarrant County. Staff said the countyproposal results in a budget-year savings of $116,498 compared with the amount previously budgeted. The agreement includes provisions to add additional policing services if they become available.

Both motions passed unanimously.

Council members characterized the Denton agreement as a low-cost way to expand procurement options and said exploring a Fort Worth cooperative was reasonable. The police ILA was described as a cost-saving renew of the county-provided services arrangement.
