South Fayette board approves PA-system replacement, staffing renewal and multiple personnel items

The South Fayette Township School District Board on Wednesday approved a request to replace the middle school public-address system, renewed a contract for substitute nurse staffing and authorized steps toward purchasing and financing property tied to Parkway West Career and Technical Center, the district said.
Superintendent Dr. Miller told the board that the middle-school PA system is inoperable and the district is seeking a replacement from Open Systems Pittsburgh through the CoStars cooperative procurement program. The board also approved renewal of an Emergis healthcare staffing agreement for the 2025-26 school year to provide substitute school nurses.
Board members approved two related items that would position the district as a member participant in a purchase of a portion of the former PTI property to support facility upgrades at Parkway West Career and Technical Center and to seek financing for those upgrades, according to Dr. Miller.
The board voted to approve business office items 2, 3, 4 and 5 as a group. The motion was moved by Board member Tom and seconded by Board member Len; the board voiced approval and the chair announced the motion passed.
The board also approved a large group of personnel items including hires, resignations and leaves of absence. Dr. Miller read personnel recommendations that included substitute-teacher and paraeducator hires, a recommended district float nurse, retirements and multiple resignations. Board member Len moved approval of personnel items 1 through 10 and 12 through 16; Board member Teresa seconded the motion. The chair announced the motion carries.
Separately, the board moved to table personnel item 11 (an EPR related matter) for consideration at the board's next meeting. Board member Len moved to table item 11; Board member Tom seconded, and the motion carried.
No roll-call vote tally was recorded in the audible portion of the meeting; the board acted by voice vote on the motions presented. The board also announced it had convened an executive session before the public meeting to discuss personnel and legal matters and later suspended business to return to an executive session at the end of the evening.
Items scheduled for action next week include changes to the consent agenda and several education and athletics items that were read for the record but not voted on at this meeting.
The board conducted the business with minimal public discussion recorded during the motions. The district livestreamed the meeting on its YouTube channel and recorded the proceedings, and the board indicated a subsequent meeting will consider remaining consent items on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
