Ian Teal of Wiga Arts updated the council on upcoming events including the Waupaca International Film Festival; city staff announced airport managers Matt and Britney were named People of the Year by the Wisconsin Airport Management Association.
Ian Teal, executive director of Wiga Arts (operating the Gerald Opera House), told the council the Waupaca Area Arts and Culture Network will host the Waupaca International Film Festival in mid-November, its fifteenth year. Teal said the festival will show 49 films and will screen a film made with Waupaca High School students, Shooting Stars, on Saturday, Nov. 15.
"We greatly appreciate the support that Waupaca provides in so many ways," Teal said, describing recent community productions and the Gerald Opera House’s role as a regional cultural venue.
Later in the meeting City Administrator Josh Finch announced that airport managers Matt and Britney were traveling to the Wisconsin Airport Management Association conference in La Crosse and had been named the association’s "People of the Year" for 2025. Finch said their work helped transform Waupaca Municipal Airport into a busier community hub, noting increased fuel sales and a calendar of community events at the field.
Council members praised the arts group and applauded the airport award. No council action was required for either report.
