The City Council approved Oct. 21 a resolution accepting a $60,000 grant from the Ann Arbor Community Foundation to support city efforts to install solar panels on homes in a neighborhood enterprise zone. Council amended the original consent‑agenda item to allow the city to accept additional future grant funds for the same project if additional private or philanthropic contributions are raised.
Council member John McLean had removed the item from consent to request an amendment after meeting with Solar RIPS representatives, who said they were continuing to pursue additional private funds. Community representative Dave Stransky, who appeared during public comment, told the council the group hoped to expand fundraising beyond the announced $60,000 and asked the city to accept extra funds when they become available.
The amended motion — to accept the $60,000 and any future, similar donations for the program and to act as fiduciary — passed on roll call.
The resolution authorizes the city manager to sign related agreements and designates the city to act as fiduciary for the grant funds.
