Summary
The Hampton Education Foundation presented a strategic plan aimed at growing grants, scholarships and alumni engagement, and announced a $300,000 25th‑anniversary fundraising goal and an endowment target of $1 million by 2027.
Dr. Jennifer Oliver, director of community and government relations for Hampton City Schools, introduced representatives from the Hampton Education Foundation to the board on Oct. 1 and summarized the foundation’s strategic priorities.
Dr. Oliver said the foundation’s plan focuses on four priorities: student opportunity and achievement; educator innovation and recognition; community engagement and investment; and sustainable growth of foundation resources. The foundation reported increases in several program areas: teacher grants rose 33% from $30,000 to $40,000 annually, student scholarships increased about 75% from $4,000 to $7,000 annually, community partnerships grew roughly 50% over three years, and the foundation secured $320,000 in new endowed gifts.
The foundation said it held more than $500,000 in assets that it expects to produce roughly $8,000 in annual ongoing funding. Looking ahead, the foundation set a fundraising goal of $300,000 to mark its 25th anniversary and intends to grow its endowment to $1 million by 2027. It also plans to boost teacher grant funding by 20–25% annually and launch an alumni engagement program targeting 10% alumni participation within three years.
Dr. Oliver invited Hampton Education Foundation leadership — including HEF president Dan Holloway and executive director Nancy Beach — to address the board and answer questions. She also highlighted upcoming HEF events: a golf fundraiser at Newport News Golf Course this Friday, a Give Today, Transform Tomorrow workplace campaign launching Oct. 15, and the fourth annual Hefffest at The Vanguard on Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
Board members thanked the foundation for its partnership. The presentation materials and the strategic blueprint were included in the board packet.
