Executive Committee approves FY2026 budget for public display, amends public-display date

The Kane County Executive Committee voted to place the county’s proposed FY2026 annual appropriations and budget on public display and approved an amendment changing the public-display date to Nov. 10.

During discussion, members clarified elements of proposed transfers between RTA sales-tax allocations and the general fund; county staff reiterated that previously agreed transfers and additional proposed transfers would affect KDOT funding levels and that detailed accounting would be provided to the board. County staff told the committee the 2026 budget currently assumes approximately $28 million in RTA sales-tax revenue across all funds, with roughly $13.7 million budgeted for KDOT under the 50/50 split discussed earlier.

Committee members moved and seconded an amendment to change the date on the appropriation ordinance to Nov. 10; the amendment passed by roll call. The committee then voted to place the FY2026 budget on public display; the motion passed with two No votes recorded (Surges and Roth).

Four separate proposed budget adjustments were considered on the agenda but failed for lack of motion in the executive session: budget adjustments for the public defender’s FY2026 budget, court services FY2026 budget, the judiciary’s FY2026 budget, and an amendment to ordinance 24-216.

What happens next The budget placed on public display will be available for public inspection and comment per county practice; the full County Board will consider final adoption after the public-display period and any staff-recommended adjustments following the additional accounting requested by committee members.
