Tamworth moves ahead with transfer-station recycling building design and equipment bids
Summary
Select Board members and staff said architects will complete recycling-building design and bid documents next week; invitations to bid will follow, and several equipment bids (containers, balers, mini-loader) are already on the street with responses arriving ahead of the Nov. 13 deadline.

Richard (town administrator/Select Board update) reported the transfer-station project is moving toward solicitation of construction bids: architects aim to finish design and bid documents the following Monday so the board can vote to issue invitations to bid the next Tuesday.
Staff told the board they had discussed electrical loads with an electrical subcontractor who raised concerns about the simultaneous operation of heavy equipment (two compactors and two balers). Designers and staff noted compactors usually operate one at a time and that staffing levels currently would not allow all equipment to run concurrently; the electrical service can be upgraded in the future if needed.
The town already issued solicitations for some equipment: bids have been received or are in hand for containers and balers and one loader bid was submitted; formal sealed bid responses are due Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. Staff said some contractors who had bid on a prior bathroom project had expressed interest in the recycling building and had asked to receive invitations to bid.
If the board accepts design bids and equipment pricing, staff said the town would compile the costs before Thanksgiving so the board could decide whether to proceed with all components of the project. The board also plans to coordinate with the Tamworth Foundation about a previously pledged $100,000 grant to determine whether to request reimbursement this year or in 2026; auditors and the town attorney indicated either timing is acceptable.
No formal vote to award construction contracts was taken at the meeting; the board scheduled design review and bid openings for upcoming meetings.
