Council rejects short-term rental software bids; staff to explore interim options

The City of Destin City Council voted unanimously to reject all proposals submitted in response to a request for proposals to provide short-term rental registration and management software. City staff said five proposals were received but only one was fully responsive and that the cost quoted by that vendor exceeded what staff considered reasonable.
Council members moved to reject all bids. Councilmember Gallo proposed – and council accepted – an amendment asking staff to continue exploring viable interim options while the city builds its own database. City staff reported that Information Technology staff have already made progress identifying condominium units that host short-term rentals and expect to have a useful database in short order.
Council discussion acknowledged the extra workload for staff but approved the rejection and gave staff direction to pursue alternative and interim solutions that could be less costly. No contract was awarded.
