The Rochester Public Schools Board approved a new set of mission, vision and value statements and accepted a new logo and tagline to guide district strategy going forward.
Superintendent Kent Pickell and staff summarized the work behind the documents and noted extensive community outreach. The new mission reads that the district will equip “every student with the knowledge, independence and resilience to pursue a fulfilling path.” The one‑sentence vision is “Every student thrives in school and in life.” The board approved six values: providing exceptional opportunities; supporting the whole student; digging deeper for authentic learning; building belonging and connection; ensuring excellence through evidence; and investing in the community’s future. Staff also presented a graphic logo described as “building blocks” and a tagline phrased as “challenged to strive, supported to thrive.”
Board members spoke in support of the work and praised inclusion of evidence and evaluation language in the values. After a motion, the board approved the resolution by voice vote; minutes show the motion passed with all those present saying “aye.” The chair said the boardroom and district materials will be updated to reflect the new visual identity.
Ending: Board members approved the strategic language and signaled a district rollout of the logo and tagline; the approval is a directional policy statement to guide the district’s strategic and communications work.
