Patron raises Green Hills branch behavior concerns; board told branch renovation is planned

Jeannie Elias said she visits Green Hills and that between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. groups of high-school students attending an after-school program were loud, tracked into adult computer areas and caused a patron to leave. She said prior conversations with branch staff yielded a conclusion that the behavior was “acceptable” and said she hoped the branch’s new code of conduct would help.
Board members responded to the comment: a board member said the Green Hills branch will be renovated and encouraged Elias to meet with branch management; another board member offered to arrange a meeting that includes a supervisor. Board members said staff want to work with patrons and communities on short- and long-term mitigation strategies during the renovation and afterward.
Separately, staff told the board they are in the process of selecting a general contractor for the Green Hills renovation, received 16 bids and anticipated closing on a construction contract in January 2026, though dates could shift. The renovation schedule was discussed in the context of overlapping closures of Green Hills and the main library and staff said they would avoid simultaneous full closures when possible.
