Board approves subcontract with Tech Goes Home to deliver senior digital skills program

The Nashville Public Library board approved a subcontract to partner with Tech Goes Home Tennessee to deliver a senior digital skills and workforce development program funded by a state grant.
Martasia Bailey, grants coordinator, told the board the library received the Broadband Digital Skills Education and Workforce Development grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development to expand the Senior Tech Academy. The grant will fund digital skills training for 126 seniors and cover up to 90 percent of eligible project costs; the library will provide a 10 percent match from Metro operating funds.
Martasia said Tech Goes Home Tennessee will hire trainers and a coordinator to facilitate classes and that the program will provide a complimentary tablet to participants who complete the course and assistance applying for affordable internet. The program will run into 2026 with the grant completion date noted as October 30, 2026.
A motion to approve the subcontract passed with a second and a unanimous affirmative voice vote. Board members asked questions about program length, staffing, participant targeting and whether volunteers could support individualized instruction; staff said Tech Goes Home would hire trainers and that volunteer support could be explored and confirmed later.
The board approved the subcontract and asked staff to proceed with implementation details and participant outreach at specified branch locations.
