Eden Prairie accepts $24,000 Lions Club donation for pollinator gardens and park AEDs

The Eden Prairie City Council on Oct. 7 accepted a $24,000 donation from the Eden Prairie Lions Club to support the city’s Sustainable Eden Prairie initiative and to install two public, year‑round AED stations in neighborhood parks.
Parks and recreation director Amy Marco told the council the Lions Club donated $10,000 toward converting turf to native pollinator gardens and $14,000 to purchase two “safe stations,” enclosed cabinets that provide 24/7 access to automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Marco said the two additional AED stations will be placed at Riley Lake Park and Staring Lake Park. She noted the city installed a first station at Miller Park about a month earlier and that “it was used within a few weeks of it being placed there.”
Marco also presented a slate of smaller donations received this quarter to support Parks & Recreation programs and special events. She listed the donations read into the record: $5,000 from the Scribe Prevention Fund for safety camp; $1,000 from Viridian Credit Union for Harvest Halloween; $500 from T‑Mobile for Harvest Halloween; $250 from Summit Place for the Senior Center Golf Classic; $100 from Elam Shores for the Senior Center Golf Classic; and $100 from Griswold Care for the Senior Center Noon Year’s Eve program. Marco said all donations help reduce program fees and enhance community events.
Council members moved and voted to accept the two donations as separate resolutions. The motion accepting the Eden Prairie Lions Club donation specifically stated: “adopt a resolution accepting the donation of $24,000 from the Eden Prairie Lions Club for native pollinators and public access AEDs.” Council approved the resolution by voice vote. The second resolution, recorded as “accepting multiple summer 2025 donations to parks and recreation,” also passed by voice vote.

Context and next steps Marco said the pollinator work is part of a multi‑year effort identifying seven areas the city plans to convert from mowed turf to native plantings over the next three years. The two AED stations will be installed at Riley Lake Park and Staring Lake Park; city staff did not provide an installation date at the meeting. The council also received the list of smaller donations into the Parks & Recreation donation accounts, as recorded in the separate resolution.
Mayor Case and other council members publicly thanked the Lions Club and other donors for supporting city programs and noted that donated funds allow the city to expand services without using additional tax revenue.
No formal council discussion amended the donations; both resolutions were accepted as presented.
