The Penfield Central School District Board of Education approved textbooks for a new SUPA (Syracuse University Project Advance) marketing course at Penfield High School during its Oct. 7 meeting.
Dr. Maloney presented the textbook as the Syracuse University–recommended resource for the SUPA marketing course, describing it as a supplemental text containing multiple case studies, an online platform with study tools, and an extensive appendix with data and graphics. Dr. Maloney said the book supports career and financial management standards by teaching marketing strategy, consumer behavior and entrepreneurship. He said the text will be available for review at the district office and the public library and would be brought back for formal adoption at the next board meeting; the board later approved the textbooks that had been reviewed on Sept. 9.
The board moved, seconded and recorded unanimous approval for the textbooks that were on the Sept. 9 review list.
Why it matters: SUPA courses allow Penfield students to earn Syracuse University credit while taking the course at Penfield High School; adopting the recommended textbook aligns the local offering with Syracuse's expectations for content and course rigor.
Implementation: the administration said the textbook will be available at district locations for public inspection and will support instruction in the new SUPA marketing course this academic year.
