The Deming Public Schools Board of Education voted to purchase a student‑transportation suite from Tyler Technologies on Wednesday, approving an initial quote of $147,826 for setup, training and first‑year licenses.
Anne Miwana, the district’s transportation director, told the board the current routing software and GPS stack is outdated, requires manual adjustments and lacks real‑time integration. She said the proposed purchase combines routing, GPS tracking and fleet maintenance and adds a parent app called MyRide. “The system brings our transportation department up to date,” Miwana said. “The implementation will happen in phases.”
The board heard that hardware will be required: the purchase includes tablets for activity drivers and GPS devices to be installed on buses to provide real‑time location data and maintenance alerts. Miwana said the system will allow route optimization that reduces mileage and fuel use and that the district already uses other Tyler products, easing the transition.
District staff told the board the purchase will be funded from the existing transportation budget and that the implementation will be phased to run the new software in the background while the current system remains in place for the remainder of the school year. The vendor’s annual subscription after the first year was listed at $56,443.
A motion to approve the quote passed unanimously.
