Wendy Griffin, president of the Lake Elmo Lake Association, asked the City Council for a letter of intent to support a Department of Natural Resources grant application to fund a five‑year lake treatment plan.
Griffin told the council she and association contractors plan to treat Eurasian milfoil and curly pondweed and are preparing work on zebra mussel prevention and response after the association learned zebra mussels are present in Lake Elmo. “I’m president of the Lake Elmo Lake Association,” Griffin said as she introduced the request.
She said the association recently submitted a grant into the DNR program identified in the record as a PFOs submission and that the DNR accepted their letter. Griffin said the group has been meeting with PLM (weed removal contractor) and Bar Engineering to coordinate treatment planning and that Valley Branch is working with engineer Meg Ratti on the zebra mussel response. She asked the council to provide a letter of intent stating the city supports the association’s effort if the grant is awarded.
Griffin also offered brief thanks to the city for a recent community event and suggested the council consider a neighborhood festival or street dance in the future.
No council action on the request was recorded during the meeting; staff follow‑up was not specified in the public record.
The association’s request, if acted on, would affect lake management planning and grant administration; the council did not vote on the letter during the meeting.
