The Cache County School District Board of Education voted on multiple action items at its Oct. 16 meeting. All recorded motions passed unanimously.
Consent agenda Jeff Nielsen moved to approve the consent agenda; Kathy Christiansen seconded. Voting was conducted electronically and the motion passed unanimously.
Student-sponsored school clubs Randall Bagley moved to approve the student-sponsored school clubs as presented; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously following brief discussion and confirmation that earlier questions had been answered.
Naming of two middle schools Jared Black moved and Alan Grunig seconded a motion to approve the recommended names for two new middle schools. The board later announced the chosen names: Nibley Middle School will be named Maple View Middle School, and Hyde Park Middle School will be named Juniper Ridge Middle School. The motion passed unanimously.
School boundary proposal Board President Terry Rhodes moved to approve the proposed school boundary adjustments; Jared Black seconded. Administrators described a targeted adjustment on the eastern edge of the Wellsville Elementary attendance area (near 2400 East) intended to ease family logistics and help equalize enrollments. The board voted electronically; the boundary proposal passed unanimously.
Secondary DLI (dual-language immersion) recommendation After public comment from resident Kendall Welker urging retention of Spanish DLI access for families in Nibley, Millville and Ridgeline, the board considered a district recommendation on secondary DLI transitions. Jeff Nielsen moved to table the recommended secondary DLI changes for the south end of the district and to proceed with the recommended secondary DLI transition in the North End; Jared Black seconded. Superintendent Todd McKee had advised tabling south-end decisions until the effects of a concurrent magnet-program change are better understood. The motion passed unanimously.
