Council approves transfer of K-9 Leo to former handler

The chief described Leo's living conditions and recent veterinary care: "When we took over Leo and everything, he had some dental needed some dental work, so we sent him to the vet to get, a tooth extracted that had gotten infected and bad. I also had them, send Leo just to get a physical. He's an older dog and everything, so they said he doesn't have any major problems other than an older dog." He added that the kennel has both an outside portion and an inside portion that is air-conditioned.
A council member who said they had made an unannounced visit told colleagues Leo "is happily smiling in this photo" and that the kennel was very clean. The chief said the plan included a veterinary checkup the following morning and paperwork to relieve the city of liability before the transfer.
After a motion and second, the council voted 8-0 to approve removing Leo from the city's inventory and releasing him to his former handler (identified in the meeting as "Miss Bert"). Council members thanked Leo for his service and the chief for the briefing.
