Lakewood unveils 2026 stormwater prevention calendar created with Lake Louise Elementary students

The Lakewood Public Works stormwater program presented its 2026 stormwater pollution-prevention outreach calendar at the Oct. 20 council meeting, recognizing selected student artwork from Lake Louise Elementary School.
Diana Heller, Lakewood's stormwater outreach coordinator, said the program marked its 15th year producing a calendar with student art and outreach messages about pollution prevention, illegal dumping, fish-friendly car washing, pet-waste disposal and natural yard care. Heller said she reached about 500 students and 30 staff during classroom assemblies, selected 15 pieces of student art for the calendar and printed 1,500 copies for distribution citywide (packet text: 1,500 calendars printed, compared with a usual run of 1,000 due to an additional grant). She said calendars will be distributed to schools, chambers of commerce, compliant businesses and at city events.
Heller said the calendar work met an NPDES permit requirement and a unique element of an interagency agreement between the Washington State Department of Ecology's Pollution Prevention Assistance Program and the City of Lakewood. The council presented certificates of recognition to participating students at the meeting.
