Finance committee backs forming 7–11 advisory panel to study surplus district properties including Brookhill and Doyle Park

The finance subcommittee recommended forming a statutorily required “7–11” committee to evaluate surplus district properties and possible uses, and identified Brookhill and Doyle Park as initial sites to review.

A district staff member explained the purpose and scope of the committee and the next steps for sending a formal recommendation to the full board. “They're called 7 11 because you have between 7 and 11 committee members, and that is in code,” the staff member said, describing statutory membership requirements that call for representation across ethnic, age‑group and socioeconomic composition, neighborhood associations, teachers, administrators and people with subject‑matter expertise.

Committee members discussed whether a single committee can handle multiple properties or whether separate panels are needed; staff said one committee can be charged with multiple properties and new properties can be added later. A committee member moved a recommendation to the board: “I recommend that we form a 7 11 committee to explore the surplus property and the utilization,” the committee member said. The committee agreed to forward the recommendation to the board.

Next steps: staff will prepare the formal board recommendation and the initial list of properties to be considered. Staff said Brookhill and Doyle Park are expected to be surplus under current assumptions; other properties could be added later as conditions change.
