Board committee recommends first reads of several policies, including social media and service-animal rules

The Spring-Ford Area School District policy committee recommended several policies for first read at the board level, including updates to policies on bicycles and motor-vehicle use, district social media, service animals and emotional-support animals, naming of district property, AED policy and gifted education, the committee reported Tuesday.
Mrs. Goldsmith, reporting from the policy committee, said Policy 223 (use of bicycles and motor vehicles and skateboards) and Policy 815.2 (district social media) were recommended for first read. Policies on service animals (Policy 718) and emotional-support animals (Policy 17.81) will undergo clinical review before being brought forward.
The committee also recommended updating the review date for Policy 702.01 (naming of district property) following recent practice implemented for the Spring-Ford Homecoming and recommended a legal review for Policy 822 (automated external defibrillators) before first read. Policy 114 (gifted education) was reviewed and no changes were recommended; its review date will be updated.
Next steps: Several policies will be listed for first read on a future agenda pending clinical or legal review as noted by the committee.
