Spring-Ford committee advances Project Lead The Way changes and new electric-guitar course for board approval

The Spring-Ford Area School District Curriculum and Technology Committee reported on proposed changes to the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) program and other curriculum items Tuesday, including a proposed new elective called Electric Guitar Building.
Mr. Lackey said Dr. Reinheimer presented proposals to replace four PLTW courses with updated equivalents and to add a new course that would be presented to the full board for approval. “An additional course was proposed and will be on the board agenda for approval. The name of this course is the Electric Guitar Building,” Lackey said in the committee report.
Other committee items included Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) requirements for a statewide personal-finance standard that becomes effective in the 2026–27 school year; renaming four high-school art classes to better reflect course content and sequence; feasibility work on full-day kindergarten; and work on a middle-school model. The committee also discussed the Turnitin product review and recommended continuing Title I parent-and-family-engagement newsletters.
Families will have chances to review curriculum materials: an I‑Ready math open-house for grades K–4 is scheduled for Nov. 3 at the district office, the committee reported.
Next steps: The proposed PLTW course replacements, the new Electric Guitar Building course, course-name updates and other recommendations will be presented to the full board for action at upcoming meetings.
