Oshkosh board recognizes retiring activities coordinator, highlights student initiatives and community partnerships

In a mission moment, the board heard from a student organizer, Erdosam Umar, who discussed founding a boys volleyball team at Oshkosh West. Trustees were told the team finished the season undefeated and plans are to elevate the program next year to varsity status and ultimately have separate teams for West and North.
The superintendent's report highlighted a series of community and school events: Oak Lawn Elementary's family night focused on the CKLA literacy curriculum, North High School Key Club students made bag lunches for the Day by Day shelter during homecoming week, and West and North girls volleyball teams ran a combined donation drive that yielded six large containers of goods for the shelter.
The superintendent also noted partnerships that support student needs, including a $1,000 contribution from the Battle on Bagel organization to the Education Foundation and Community Clothes Closet to help purchase winter gear for economically disadvantaged students. The board recognized Anthony Miller Jr. for receiving a local alumni award and was invited to community dedications and events taking place across the district.
