District cybersecurity training completion rebounds to 87%, regains top rating

District technology staff reported a rebound in cybersecurity training participation after changing the training schedule.
Mr. Schmidt said the district had shifted last year from larger biannual trainings to shorter monthly modules and that the change reduced participation because some employees mistook the monthly training prompts for phishing emails. He said the district reverted to the prior approach after polling staff and that training completion is now 87 percent, up from about 60 percent the previous year.
"That puts us solidly in the five-star rating category for cybersecurity," Mr. Schmidt said, and he credited staff and board attention for improved awareness. He noted the district will continue to emphasize user vigilance because people are often the weakest link in security programs.
