Board names new Early Learning Center 'Atria'; Erica Ryan announced as principal

The Shenendehowa Central School District Board of Education approved a resolution to name the district’s new early learning building “Atria.” The board also announced that Erica Ryan, currently principal at Shattacon, will become the Early Learning Center principal; the district said her formal appointment and transition will take place in April as staffing moves are completed.

Superintendent Dr. Wilson Turner presented the resolution and explained that the district historically assigns Native American names to its schools and that the early learning center did not have an existing student population to participate in a vote. Dr. Wilson Turner said the chosen name, pronounced like “Atria” and evocative of heart/center, was selected from names historically used within the district and deemed appropriate for young learners.

The board discussed the resolution and approved it by board vote. The superintendent said Erica Ryan has been working on project planning for the new building and that her appointment will be activated in April after the district hires to fill Ryan’s current position.
