The Waverly City Council on Oct. 6 unanimously approved the second reading of Ordinance 1172 to rezone properties owned by MDM Partnership at the former Willow Lawn Mall and adjacent parcels from S-1, Shopping Center District, to C-2, Commercial District, and to amend the Waverly zoning map accordingly.
The council opened a public hearing at the start of the item; the city clerk reported no written or oral comments had been received and no one rose to speak. After brief council discussion, a motion to approve the second reading was made and, after a roll call, the ordinance passed unanimously: Wolf, Raffi, Myers, Kangas, Jones and Bergen voted yes.
Council members noted staff provided a map clarifying which existing businesses were not included in the rezoning; one council member said, "I just appreciated Paige sending out a map that clarified which businesses were not involved in this, which are the two dental offices and Pizza Ranch." The clerk had earlier indicated no public testimony was submitted during the hearing.
The ordinance will amend the city's zoning map to reflect the rezoning described in the ordinance language. The second-reading vote completes the council's formal action on this item at the Oct. 6 meeting; the ordinance text in the docket described the owner as "MDM Partnership" and the subject area as the former Willow Lawn Mall and surrounding areas. The ordinance summary did not specify an effective date in the meeting transcript.
