Habitat for Humanity cleared to build five infill homes in Northwest District with design conditions

The West Palm Beach Historic Preservation Board on Sept. 30 approved five new single‑family homes proposed by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County for vacant lots in the Northwest District, but required design changes and permit‑level details to ensure the new houses fit the neighborhood’s historic character.

Habitat representatives told the board the homes will be sold to qualified first‑time buyers under Habitat’s zero‑interest mortgage program. The lots for the projects were donated by the Urban League of Palm Beach County; Habitat said partnerships with the city and other funders make the infill program possible.

Board members and staff said the neighborhood has seen significant demolition and lot clearing over recent decades, and that new infill must strike a balance between affordability and compatibility.
