Board approves EMSLink contract and $2.9 million in teacher-residency grants

The State Board of Education on Sept. 25 approved a three-year contract with EMSLink to provide service and support for the department—s grants-management system (MCAPS) and approved one-year discretionary grants totaling $2.9 million to nine colleges and universities for the Mississippi Teacher Residency Program.
Department staff told the board the EMSLink contract covers system service and support for MCAPS and the contract total is $998,000 over three years. The board moved and approved the contract during the meeting; a motion to approve was seconded and the board voted in favor.
Separately, the department presented a one-year discretionary grant package for nine universities to support the Mississippi Teacher Residency Program. The total award amount presented to the board was $2,900,000 and department backup materials list each of the nine institutions and their individual award amounts. The board voted to approve the grant awards.
Both items were presented with standard backup materials; no dissenting votes were recorded on the floor of the meeting.
