Superintendent Manuel presented the board with the district’s alumni engagement strategy on Sept. 30, linking it to Objective 4.2.01 of the district’s strategic plan to grow and engage an alumni network through events, recognition and outreach.
Manuel said the district has redefined the role of a staff member at Houston High School (Miss Spain) to include admissions/retention work and alumni engagement in coordination with communications staff (Miss Crowder). He said the district has published 14 alumni profiles this year on the GMSD alumni web page, plans quarterly alumni newsletters, and will use alumni as career speakers, mentors, potential partners for internships and as advocates for the district.
Manuel announced an alumni tailgate before the Arlington game, scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the South end zone, offering barbecue and opportunities to reconnect with former students and staff. He encouraged alumni to register on the district website (Departments → Outreach → Alumni) so the district can maintain contact information and highlight reunions and events.
The presentation was informational; no board action was requested.
