Dave Lake, the district's director of operations, briefed the Burnsville Public School District Board of Education on the 2025 summer construction and maintenance projects at the Sept. 25 meeting, saying the work focused on safety, accessibility and modernization across sites.
"In closing, this summer's construction projects represent a major investment in our students, staff and community," Lake said. He presented work completed at Burnsville High School, middle and elementary schools and districtwide infrastructure upgrades.
At Burnsville High School, Lake reported replacement of the main- gym bleachers, refinished gym and activity center floors, an upgraded sound system, new infill walls and interior painting. Pool-area work included a replaced filtration system and updates to portions of the pool deck. The district also replaced a district freezer and completed mechanical upgrades to the emergency generator, air handlers and water heaters.
At Diamondhead Education Center Lake said the district added a voluntary pre-K classroom, updated multiple classrooms and offices, repaired exterior elements, added security cameras and replaced several rooftop compressors.
Middle-school work included a new ADA-compliant pool lift and resurfaced tennis courts at Eagle Ridge, upgraded PA and new carpeting and casework at Nicollet, and new classroom flooring plus staff-area updates at Gideon Pond. Districtwide work included new playground equipment pieces at two elementary schools (Vista View and Edward Neal), new cafeteria tables at five elementary sites, ADA automatic door openers at Eagle Ridge and Burnsville High School, parking-lot sweeping and restriping, sidewalk repairs and major plumbing, HVAC, boiler and chiller upgrades.
Director Hume thanked the facilities team and said he expected the new bleachers would improve spectator experience at events. Lake said the older bleachers dated to 2008 and had shown progressive wear that prompted the replacement.
Lake told the board the playground upgrades at two sites began with site staff and community input: principals and staff selected pieces within a district-provided budget footprint. He said the district is developing a multiyear plan and budgeting approach to address playground and other cyclical facility needs.
The board received the report; no formal action was taken during the presentation.
