CHASKA, Minn. — City of Chaska water was recognized Monday by the Minnesota section of the American Water Works Association and the Minnesota Department of Health as the two‑time winner of the state fair tap‑water taste test.
At the city council meeting a representative from the Minnesota Department of Health, Stu Thornley, said, “Chaska became the first two‑time winner,” and described how the annual state fair contest engages fairgoers in a bracketed taste competition that highlights tap water quality and encourages reusable water bottle use.
Kevin and Matt from city water staff accepted the recognition; Matt told the council the award “is a direct reflection on the group we have working here at the city,” and praised the treatment plant, wells and distribution crew for their work. Council members and staff used the presentation to note the broader importance of safe, well‑tested drinking water and the value of the utility’s public‑facing outreach.
The on‑stage presentation was primarily ceremonial: the presenters encouraged residents to rely on tap water as a safe, inexpensive alternative to bottled water and to learn about testing and monitoring that protect public health.
