The Houston County Commission approved a $1,400 advertising package offered through the Industrial Development Board and heard that staff has submitted a $2.2 million grant application to prepare a 45-acre industrial site for development.
Commissioners voted to purchase a one-year advertising placement that the Industrial Development Board said would reach roughly 1.5 million viewers and link viewers to the Houston County website. The commission agreed the $1,400 cost would be paid from tourism funds.
During discussion county staff and industrial park board members described a separate grant application—about $2.2 million—to prepare a 45-acre site with grading, drainage and a pad sized for a 100,000-square-foot building. Staff said the grant covers site preparation only and does not include construction of any building on the pad. If the site is certified and prepared, staff said it would be more attractive to prospective companies, though the county does not have a grant for building construction.
Commissioners were told the county has multiple potential sites and that qualifying for the grant required at least a 20-acre parcel; the 45-acre site was described as the county—s largest parcel. No contract or grant award was finalized at the meeting; the commission approved only the advertising buy and requested future reports on the industrial park work.
On a roll-call vote the commission approved the advertising expenditure.
