Cuyahoga County’s Committee on Community Development and Housing voted to forward to full council a resolution authorizing up to $5,000 from the District 11 ARPA Community Grant Fund to Friends of the Hen Mansion Inc. for repairs to the mansion’s chimneys.
Charlene Mancuso, board president for Friends of the Hen Mansion, told the committee the mansion is a 9,500‑square‑foot historic building owned by the city of Euclid that has been maintained by a volunteer board for decades. “We put together an assessment after about 9, 9 and a half months of what the house needs,” Mancuso said, and described recent work that began on the chimneys and a slate‑roof assessment that will follow.
Committee members praised the preservation work and the mansion’s community programming — including summer reading programs and events tied to Sims Park and the Lake Erie boardwalk — and asked about long‑term sustainability. Mancuso said rental income from modestly priced events helps operations and that the board is pursuing fundraising to address capital projects.
The committee moved the resolution forward to full council for additional readings; a voice vote approved sending the $5,000 allocation for the county’s required three readings. Committee members encouraged the group to continue outreach and noted the site’s value to the city of Euclid and the county.
