Terrell postpones decision on vehicle-salvage special-use permit at 1001 Airport Road to Oct. 23

The Terrell Planning and Zoning Commission on Sept. 25 voted to postpone consideration of a special-use permit for vehicle recovery and salvage operations at 1001 Airport Road until the Oct. 23, 2025 meeting.
City planning staff said the applicant (operating or associated with Skip Trace) currently operates vehicle-recovery activities elsewhere in Terrell and seeks a location to store and process abandoned or recovered vehicles. Staff explained state law requires a waiting period of 43 days before an abandoned-surrender vehicle can be sold, and said the existing building at 1001 Airport Road does not meet current city building standards without modifications.
Staff recommended postponement to allow negotiations with the applicant, continued review of building requirements, and coordination on site improvements. The commission approved the motion to postpone and directed staff to republish notice of the public hearing for Oct. 23, 2025 and to notify property owners within the 200-foot buffer.
No public speakers testified in favor or opposition at the Sept. 25 hearing; the record shows the postponement passed on a voice vote and staff will return with updated materials at the Oct. 23 meeting.
