The Sunnyside City Council voted to extend the appointment of interim City Manager Bridges for six months at his current salary. Councilor Hart moved to approve the six-month extension; Councilor Vasquez seconded. The motion passed with all voting members recorded as voting yes.
Councilors discussed, briefly, that some members would prefer a permanent appointment but proceeded with the six-month extension by majority consent. After the vote, Bridges thanked the council for its trust and pledged to continue working with staff to implement council direction. He said, "I'd just like to say thank you, to the council for the faith and the trust you put in me... I will continue to work diligently to... move forward and and pass that along to staff." The transcript records that comment immediately after the council recorded the vote.
The extension was presented as a resolution on the agenda; no resolution number or dollar-figure change to salary was provided in open session, and the motion specified continuation at Bridges' current salary. The council recorded roll-call affirmative votes by Councilor Ripley, Councilor Hancock, Councilor Provosto, Councilor Hart, Councilor Vasquez, the deputy mayor and the mayor.
The meeting adjourned after the item.
