Show Low council awards Sierra Pines asphalt purchase to Perkins Aggregate Inc. for $63,687.25

The Show Low City Council unanimously approved a staff recommendation to award the purchase of asphalt concrete for the Sierra Pines paving project (City of Show Low project No. 5002692) to Perkins Aggregate Incorporated in an amount not to exceed $63,687.25.

City staff said that on Sept. 8 a request for sealed quotes was mailed to three companies and only one vendor submitted a bid. Staff reported that another contacted supplier said its asphalt plant is in Indian Wells, Arizona and shipping from that location would be cost-prohibitive; W.W. Clyde declined to bid. Perkins Aggregate Incorporated submitted a quote of $63,687.25. Staff recommended awarding the purchase to Perkins and council voted to approve the contract award.

When asked whether the award amount was in line with customary pricing, staff said current pricing equates to about $109 per ton. Councilmember questions focused on whether the price was reasonable given that it was the only bid; staff replied that the number reflected current local pricing and that the single bid resulted from market and logistic factors noted in the procurement outreach.
