Board approves use-permit on appeal for vegetarian café at 802 Sixth Avenue SE

The Decatur City Board of Adjustment approved a use-on-appeal request to operate a vegetarian café and smoothie business at 802 Sixth Avenue Southeast, in a B-1 local shopping district.
Laren Hardy, the property owner, told the board the building has been commercial for about 40 years and that he intends to lease space to tenants who would operate a vegetarian café and smoothie shop. Hardy said he owns the adjacent property at 804 Sixth Avenue SE and does not expect parking to be a problem: “between 802 and 804, there’s plenty of parking, so I don’t think that would be an issue at all,” he said.
Board members moved to approve the use-on-appeal. During roll call the board recorded affirmative votes; the motion carried. No conditions or additional restrictions were recorded in the meeting transcript.
The approval allows the business to proceed with required building- and health-department permits, licensing, and any parking or engineering approvals necessary to operate in the B-1 zone.
The applicant thanked the board after the vote; no public opposition was recorded in the transcript.
