Jackson County public-works update: resurfacing schedule, request to use hot mix on short County Road 103 section

Jackson County Public Works staff updated the commission Oct. 22 on the county’s local road resurfacing program and requested approval to change the planned surface material for a short residential section of County Road 103.
Staff said the county completed one round of chip-seal resurfacing and was preparing several remaining roads (County Roads 133, 326 and 322) for a second round of resurfacing planned for the first full week of October. Public Works said that County Road 103 is a short, residential segment near the county line with some existing hot-mix sections and homes very close to the road. Staff proposed placing hot-mix asphalt on that short section instead of ripping up the roadway and applying chip seal, to avoid a prolonged construction disruption over winter months and to keep the resurfacing schedule on track.
Public Works asked commissioners whether the material substitution would be opposed. Commissioners indicated no opposition during the meeting; staff said they believe the change will allow the department to complete the resurfacing list before the end of the year.
Staff also noted that some drainage-structure work was underway and that stockpiling materials and final prep work would determine the precise paving timeline for the remaining roads.
