Chris Birch, advocacy associate with Bike Newport, told the City Council that the City and Bike Newport submitted a Bicycle Friendly Community application on June 25 and are positioned to move from Bronze to Silver based on recent work and inventories of infrastructure and programs.
Birch thanked staff across departments and said the community survey circulated by the city’s communications team had collected more than 200 responses; the survey closes this weekend, Oct. 5. “Whether you get on your bike daily or go for a couple rides in the summer, your feedback and perspectives are needed for a comprehensive application,” Birch said, and invited council members, staff and residents to complete the survey at bikewportri.org. Birch said rankings will be released in December and promised another update to the council then.
