City Manager Britney announced that Police Chief Jeff Pearson has formally notified the city of his retirement effective Oct. 31 after 38 years of service, including 14 years as chief. Britney said Chief Pearson recently celebrated the arrival of a new grandchild and has chosen to use accrued leave to finish his final month with the city.
City Manager Britney told the council, "We thank Chief Pearson for his decades of service and thoughtful planning for the future, and we congratulate him on a well earned retirement, and please also join us in congratulating Chief Hodge as he steps into his new role." She said Deputy Chief Brad Hodge has been appointed interim chief of police.
Council members thanked Chief Pearson for his long service. One council member said they look forward to celebrating the chief at an upcoming event and noted his leadership "has benefited us as a city for many, many, many years." The council did not take formal action on the appointment; the city manager’s announcement served as the administrative appointment for the interim period.
