Central York board schedules final adoption for three policies; solicitor's interpretation clears fees for cyber and charter extracurriculars

The Central York School District Board of School Directors conducted second readings on Sept. 29 of three district policies and discussed additional policies coming to first read.
Director Walker reviewed Policy 114 (gifted education), Policy 140.1 (extracurricular participation by charter and cyber students) and Policy 317 (student conduct/disciplinary procedures) and told the board the policies will be up for final adoption at the board's next meeting on Oct. 6 if there are no objections.
On Policy 140.1, Walker said a solicitor's clarification confirmed the district may bill a cyber or charter school for any costs or fees the district charges its own students for extracurricular activities or interscholastic programs. Walker put that clarification on the record: "the clarification we got from our solicitor, confirmed ... the district can bill back to a cyber or charter school any cost or fees that we charge our own students for extracurricular activities or interscholastic programs," he said.
Board members also reported the policy committee reviewed additional items that will move forward for first read, including a fraud policy (A28), a volunteers policy (916) and a complaint process policy (326). The committee noted it did not get to Policy 815 (acceptable use) and plans to schedule that review for the next cycle.
No final votes on the three policies were taken at this meeting; the board scheduled final adoption for Oct. 6.
